Important Information for BC and MB HHW Members: Product Decision Trees

Dear PCA Members,

Product Care Association (PCA) would like to provide an update to members of the Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) stewardship programs in both British Columbia (BC) and Manitoba (MB).

PCA held consultations with its members, the Canadian Consumer Specialty Products Association (CCSPA) and the HHW Advisory Committee (consisting of manufacturers, retailers and industry association representatives) to improve the MB HHW decision tree and develop a BC flammables decision tree. In addition, the product inclusion and exclusions lists for both programs were reviewed and updated.

These resources are now available to members on productcare.org and are linked below. Please carefully review the decision trees and product lists so that you will be using the most up to date resources when completing your BC and MB reports to PCA.

Any changes in reporting required by members due to the additional clarity or updates in these resources will be effective March 1, 2018. Based on the consultations, PCA believes that the impact to your reporting will be minimal. Instead, these resources are intended to provide a clearer and more accurate reflection of products included in these programs. It remains the responsibility of members to classify products against the regulated definitions of each obligated product category in each province, and members may contact PCA for assistance in clarification when required.

BC Decision Tree: This decision tree applies to the BC flammable and solvent category only. This is a new resource in the BC program.

BC Accepted Products List: This list has been updated to better serve PCA members in product classification decision making.

MB Decision Tree: The HHW decision tree for MB has been updated to more accurately reflect aerosol classification. This decision tree applies to MB flammables, corrosives and toxics.

MB Accepted Products List: This list has been updated to better serve PCA members in product classification decision making.

Members should update their files and remove any references and/or links to the previous documents.

If you have any questions or comments about these resources, please feel free to contact the Program Coordinator for the respective program (contact information provided below).

Sincerely,

The Product Care Team
