British Columbia Alarms Environmental Handling Fee

This program is funded entirely by Environmental Handling Fees (EHFs) remitted by Product Care’s industry members. EHFs are paid by Product Care’s members based on their unit sales in the provinces where Product Care has programs.

EHFs are taxable, as they are considered to be a part of the price of regulated products. While the taxes are remitted to the government, no part of the fee itself is remitted to the government.

 Note: Where multiple smoke or carbon monoxide alarms are sold as one unit (often one package), the fees are additional and based on the fee per product that would be charged.
