On December 11, 2018 the Minister of the Environment, Conservation and Parks (MECP) amended the direction to Stewardship Ontario (SO), the Industry Funding Organization (IFO) responsible for Municipal Hazardous or Special Waste (MHSW) to:
- Stewardship Ontario to develop and submit an MHSW wind up plan to RPRA no later than June 30, 2019
- The Single Use battery program will cease operations June 30, 2020
- The remaining MHSW waste diversion programs will cease operations December 31, 2020
