Household Hazardous Waste Safe Disposal in BC
You can drop off leftover household hazardous waste (HHW) like pesticides and flammable liquids, including gasoline, for free at collection sites across British Columbia. They will be safely disposed of or used in new ways, such as for energy recovery.
There is no limit to how many products you can drop off at once.
Accepted Products:
For safety reasons, all products must be in the original container and have their original label intact to be accepted by the program. Products may not be leaking or improperly sealed.
Pesticides
We accept liquid, solid and aerosol pesticides.
The maximum container size is 10 litres. The maximum aerosol container size is 680g / 24oz.
To be accepted, pesticides must have:
- the poison symbol (skull and crossbones)
- the Pest Control Product (PCP) number
- the word ‘domestic’ on the label
Flammable liquids (including gasoline)
We accept liquid and aerosol flammables. They must display the flammable symbol, or a phrase similar to “keep away from open spark or flame”.
Gasoline will be accepted only in an ULC-approved gas can or jerry can. For safety reasons, the gasoline container cannot be returned to you at drop off.

- Gasoline, including stale or old gasoline contaminated with oil or water
- Acetone
- BBQ lighter fluid
- Camping fuel (liquid type only)
- Flammable degreasers
- Flammable liquid adhesives
- Flammable lubricants
- Fondue fuel
- Furniture stripper
- Kerosene
- Methanol
- Methyl hydrate
- Mineral spirits
- Paint and varnish remover
- Paint stripper
- Paint thinners
- Turpentine
- Varsol
- Other flammable solvents
The maximum container size is 10 litres. The maximum aerosol container size is 680g / 24oz.
The maximum container size for gasoline is 25 litres.
Not Accepted Products:

- Unidentifiable, unknown, unlabelled, and non-original containers
- Leaking or improperly sealed products
- Ammunition
- Batteries
- Caulking compound
- Commercial, industrial or agricultural products
- Corrosive cleaners (eg. drain opener, bleach)
- Diesel, butane, and refillable propane cylinders
- Cosmetics and beauty products (e.g. perfume)
- Drugs, medicines and other health products (e.g. hand sanitizer)
- Medical sharps
- Fertilizer
- Insect repellents, disinfectants and pet products
- Mercury switches
- Oil and antifreeze
- Powder forms (solid) of masonry products, cement, grout, mortar, plaster of Paris
- Swimming pool and hot tub chemicals (eg. pucks, pH adjustors)
- Windshield washer fluid
- Wine and distilled spirits
