Accepted Products
The Nova Scotia program accepts lamps (light bulbs and tubes) from all sectors: residential, institutional, commercial, and industrial, regardless of brand.
To be accepted in the program, the product must be an easily replaceable light source that produces light from electricity. Lights included in the program are sold as replacement lights or are integrated into another product (such as a fixture, a flashlight, string lights etc.). When sold integrated into a product, the light needs to be easily removable and intended to be replaced with a new light.
There is no charge to return accepted designated lights at any of the program’s return collection facilities, although quantity limits apply.
When dropping off lights remember:
- You can return up to 16 light bulbs (any combination of different types of bulbs) and up to 16 tubes at one time
- If you have between 16 light bulbs and 1 pallet of lights, search for a commercial volume location through our recycling locator
- If you have more than 1 pallet of lights, visit the Commercial Volumes webpage to see if you qualify for free pickup.
Accepted Products:
- Fluorescent tubes (straight, curved, U, circular, square, etc.)
- Compact fluorescent lights (CFLs)
- High-intensity discharge lights (HIDs)
- Incandescent lights
- Halogen lights
- Light emitting diodes (LEDS), both lights and tubes
Not Accepted Products:
- Ballasts
- Light fixtures (no ceiling, table, desk, or floor lamp fixtures)
- Lights integrated into products that are not intended for easy removal/replacement by end users
- Christmas lights and string lights (replaceable light bulbs are accepted if removed from the string lights)
- Lights included in transport vehicles (ie. lights in new cars, boats, atvs) that are not intended for easy removal/ replacement by end-users
